Hasina’s Tightrope Walk

Sheikh Hasina’s friends are abandoning her?

That is one big question haunting AL and particularly Sheikh Hasina. She had to partake the family legacy of total loyalty to India, like family heirloom handed down to Hasina, well guarded and preserved by her. But it seems that this so precious artifact is palpably in the process of slipping out of her hands just like proverbial wet soap.

Well, India alone is not to be blamed for this about face on her; she justifiably shares the major portion of the blame. The reason being, that she has not been able to give to her mentors a worthy heir to take on this mettle. Shajib Wazed Joy has not shown enough current and dynamism to prove that he is eligible for the job. The situation was compounded by the personal habits and character traits of Mr. Joy who has invidious penchant for reckless life style, which has, on many occasions bought him displeasure of law and landed in jail as well. Inter family feuds too cast stones in Joy’s way to the privileged position. Hasina’s sister Sheikh Rehana has strong reservations about the suitability of Mr. Joy as an acceptable heir to the throne. It seems that Sheikh Hasina’s Indian mentors too have profound dislike for Mr. Joy. During Hasina’s stay in India from August 1975 – 1981 in a RAW owned safe house at Basant Bahar, Joy fell in love with a Sikh girl (probably set up by ‘some one’). Things collapsed at the verge of marriage when proposed bride declined to accept Islam. It is also conjectured by some quarters that the girl refused to become Muslim only because ‘some people’ in India had already gauged the steam in Joy and foresaw that he is not going fit into Hasina’s shoes hence unfit for becoming India’s prime pointed man in BD. Moreover, Indian bosses perceived well in advance that AL stands bleak chance of winning the scheduled 07 elections. So, they formulated a well planned well moneyed and blood soaked ghastly strategy whereby by spilling blood of innocent Bengalis on Bangladeshi soil was like turbid waters of Yamuna

They made holding of timely elections well nigh impossible. Nazi Hitler and Communist Stalin must have felt uneasy in their graves when they saw that someone turning out beater than them in foul playing.

Taking a little well deserved diversion we should cast a bird’s eye view at the things BD lost in all this game. Firstly, a huge constitutional crises set in, the whole fabric of constitutional machinery that BD has so painstakingly woven was rent asunder. Reportedly, BD sustained a huge economic loss, BD apparel industry lost foreign orders worth millions of dollars. And guess who hijacked those orders? None other than BD’s most compassionate neighbor. Foreign invests were scared away and continuous strikes played havoc with every sector of economy.

Lastly and more importantly too many innocent lives were lost for no good reasons, too many homes and hearts of already back-broken poor Bengali people were destroyed irreparably.

Now, coming back to Hasina’s predicaments; taking all attending circumstances into our calculus one invariably reaches the conclusion that Hasina remained on the center stage of government or opposition due to the generous help of her foreign mentors and now these very same lots have nudged her away. With this disfavored resume her political carrier could be sealed or else, she could be relegated to the status of second tier politician who could at best hope to sit in Sangsad Bhaban and listen to what others have to say.
